Get the details from the September U-M Board of Regents meeting, including news about faculty promotions and new lecturers.

Chancellor Domenico Grasso provided the following university updates:

  • Enrollment is trending up. The Fall 2024 first-year class is the second largest in history, average incoming class GPA is the third highest among the public universities, graduation rates continue to increase, and the students of color population is up. 
  • UM-Dearborn is in the news. The first half of 2024 saw 29 national placements, 46 local. Recently, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Hafiz Malik had an op-ed in The Hill and Professor or Sociology Pam Aronson contributed to an article in The Atlantic. 
  • UM-Dearborn received the Innovator Award from the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency for hosting a Veteran Service Officer on our campus.

  • Laura Birou, Ph.D., from Lecturer III in Management Studies, COB to Lecturer I in Information and Operations Management, COB, Sept. 1 – Dec. 31, 2024.

  • Michael B. McCarthy, from Collegiate Lecturer and Lecturer III in Management Studies, COB to Collegiate Lecturer and Lecturer IV in Information and Operations Management, COB, Sept. 1, 2024 – April 30, 2027.

New appointments of instructional staff represented by the Lecturers’ Employee Organization

  • Syeda Ghani, M.S., Lecturer I in Mechanical Engineering, CECS, Aug. 26 – Dec. 31, 2024.

  • Kate E. Masley, Ph.D., Lecturer I in Anthropology, Department of Behavioral Sciences, CASL, July 1 – Aug. 31, 2024.

  • Gregory E. Pflum, M.B.A., Lecturer I in Information and Operations Management, COB, Sept. 1 – Dec. 31, 2024.

  • Tala Taleb, M.A., Lecturer I in Accounting and Finance, COB, Sept. 1 – Dec. 31, 2024.
