Reminder: UM-Dearborn goes smoke-free on July 1

In a little more than two weeks from now, UM-Dearborn will become a smoke-free campus.

In anticipation of the campus going smoke-free, the University recently released a newly posted Standard Practice Guide, 601.4 that states the intent of the smoking ban taking effect on July 1 and details the restrictions.

According to the revised SPG, smoking will be prohibited in all University buildings, facilities, grounds and University-owned vehicles.

On the UM-Dearborn campus, this includes the parking structure and surface lots. Smoking inside privately-owned vehicles within the parking structure or surface lots will be permitted.

Other regulations in the revised SPG include:

• The sale of tobacco products is prohibited in all University buildings, facilities and

grounds.

• Assistance with smoking cessation for faculty and staff is available through MHealthy at www.hr.umich.edu/mhealthy/programs/tobacco, which includes information about the U-M Tobacco Consultation Service, current health plan offerings and available online programs. Students can receive assistance through the University Health Service and the Tobacco Consultation Service.

Signage and tobacco receptacles will be put in place this month to remind students, faculty, staff and guests of this new policy.
