Students organize dinner to benefit veterans

UM-Dearborn students will host a dinner to benefit veterans on November 16.

Alliance for Disability Awareness

For Uzma Anwar, it’s an easy way to say thanks.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn student is helping organize a Veterans’ Benefit Dinner this month to honor military members and raise awareness about issues many veterans face.

Anwar is the event coordinator for the Alliance for Disability Awareness, a student organization that serves to educate the university and its surrounding community about various disabilities. This semester, the organization decided to focus its effort on veterans.

All of the proceeds raised from the November 16 event go toward the Michigan chapter of Volunteers of America, a charitable organization with programs in place for veterans.

However, in order to make the dinner possible, Anwar and her colleagues need the support of corporate and individual sponsors. Financial support would help pay for the hall, food and décor, as well as pay for veterans’ tickets to the event.

“We would greatly appreciate any support that you could give us to help make this dinner possible, and to show support for those in need who risked their lives to ensure our freedom and security,” Anwar said.

Tickets cost $30, or $20 for students, and can be purchased here. For more information, contact Anwar at 734-512-6835 or [email protected].
