Eight students from the Department of Natural Sciences attended the 239th national meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Francisco this spring, where the students had the unique opportunity to present their research.
Each student presented his or her research on an area related to nanotechnology, green chemistry and analytical chemistry.
The trip was organized by Krisanu Bandyopadhyay, assistant professor of chemistry, who received funding for the trip from UM-Dearborn’s Department of Natural Sciences, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Life. The UM-Dearborn Chemistry Club also provided funds for the trip by paying the registration fees for the students.
“This is the first time when so many students from the department had the opportunity to attend and disseminate their research work at a national meeting,” according to Bandyopadhyay. “I hope to continue and build upon this legacy with excellent support from the department and the university in order to improve and augment the scholarly activity of these undergraduate researchers.”
