UM-Dearborn is now a smoke-free campus

University of Michigan-Dearborn is now a smoke-free university.

All three U-M campuses went smoke-free on July 1. This means members of the UM-Dearborn community should refrain from smoking on all campus grounds and in all buildings.

Smoking is allowed inside private vehicles in the UM-Dearborn parking lots and parking structure.

In an email to campus on July 1, Chancellor Daniel Little said, "UM-Dearborn is committed to a healthy campus environment and the MHealthy initiative. A smoke-free campus is the right move in support of both initiatives and is very much in line with the overall philosophies and teaching of the University."

The website includes a full report of the Smoke-Free University Steering Committee, a link to the final Standard Practice Guide policy, information on how the University can help smokers who wish to quit, and tips on how to approach someone who is not adhering to the policy.

UM-Dearborn faculty and staff also should look for pocket-sized smoke-free resource cards (pictured in the photo above) to appear in their office mailboxes via campus mail. These cards, courtesy of UM-Dearborn's Smoke-free Committee, will provide a reminder of the policy and messages that faculty and staff can utilize if they see someone smoking.
