UM-Dearborn's West African Drum Group

November 14, 2012

The loud echo of drums resonates throughout the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters' Building on Friday afternoons.

The reason? University of Michigan-Dearborn's West African Drum Group. Music Lecturer Vera Flaig directs the group, which consists of about ten students. “We started out this semester with a smaller group, and then it’s just grown exponentially as students are getting more geeked about it,” Flaig said. “So now it’s a very lively group of students and they meet once a week, twice a week when we have a gig, and they just really enjoy themselves.”
