September 14, 2022

Check out what’s happening around campus next week in celebration of our Go Blue! Go Dearborn! school spirit.

It’s that time of year, Dearborn Wolverines.

The leaves start changing color. The sounds of Michigan football fill the living room. And student-created cardboard boats race through the Chancellor’s Pond. It’s Homecoming.

Homecoming 2022 takes place from Sept. 19 to 24. It starts on Monday with the campus tradition of the pep rally and cardboard boat races and culminates with two sporting events: an ice hockey game in the Fieldhouse and a football game in the Big House.

We’ve rounded up some a-maize-ing events happening around campus, but you’ll want to make sure to check out the complete list of alumni events on this page, and student events on Victors Link.

Start out the week with some pep in your step.
1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, Chancellor’s Pond
At the Pep Rally, there will be music, a few words of Dearborn Wolverine pride and refreshments to start off Homecoming week right.

2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, Chancellor’s Pond
It's Cardboard Boat Race time. Using a boat frame made entirely of cardboard, students test their creative thinking and engineering skills to see if their boat — with someone in it — can make it across Chancellor’s Pond and back the fastest with their boat afloat and in one piece. Last year the Graduate International Student Organization took first place. Watch as they defend their title. Whether you win, lose or just watch, there will be free cider and donuts.

Go ice skating.
4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, Fieldhouse
Grab your skates and practice your Triple Lutz — or feel free to hold on to the rink edges — at the Fieldhouse Open Skate. Register to attend this free family-friendly event. BYOS (Bring your own skates) or borrow some for free. Popular sizes are available at the service desk near the rink on a first-come, first-served basis. Since it gets a little chilly on the ice, free hot chocolate will warm you up.

Get outside and play — or cheer!
6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, field south of the CASL Building
Dearborn Wolverine alumni take on students during the campus’ flag football game, the Maize and Blue Bowl, for the trophy. You can register to join the 2022 alumni team; students can register for the student team.

Sunset, Thursday, Sept. 22, University Center patio
In the words of Ferris Bueller, “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Inspired by those words, campus is hosting an Outdoor Movie Night to hang out with family, friends and Wolverines while watching the 1986 film Ferris Bueller on a 17-foot screen. There will be picnic areas set up, but feel free to bring chairs and blankets. If it rains, we’ll move the party into the UC.

Prep your moves for the Homecoming dance.
7-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, University Center Kochoff Hall
It’s time to party like it’s 1999. Whether you are going the velour tracksuit route or planning to go overboard with cute kitschy accessories (butterfly clips, we see you), find the best Y2K-themed outfit to wear for the 2022 Homecoming Dance.
