The Mgaged program is a growing list of events and activities on campus in which staff members can participate to broaden their perspective of campus life and better understand the goals and values of University of Michigan-Dearborn. Staff senators hope the program helps staff members build relationships and uncover opportunities for development, greater job satisfaction and advancement.
“We know staff members have a greater sense of belonging and purpose when they’re engaged at work,” said Pat Turnbull, research process coordinator and staff senator. “Interacting and connecting with your campus community makes work more meaningful.”
Turnbull noted that engagement is key for staff members because of their contributions across campus. “Staff members are the backbone of UM-Dearborn. We serve an important role in making the university run efficiently and effectively as we carry out the mission and metropolitan vision,” she said.
So what’s it take to become Mgaged? The list of 18 activities includes attending a Staff Senate meeting (held the fourth Wednesday of every month) or campus forum, volunteering for a campus service project, serving on a campus committee and having lunch with a new staff member.
Mgaged is a self-initiated program, so staff members are encouraged to work at their own pace. Once participants complete at least 10 activities, they will be recognized as Mgaged Staff Members at an upcoming Staff Senate open forum.
