Tim Davis, director of iLabs received a $193,065 award from the Michigan Department of Transportation. He will evaluate the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program and develop and implement an action plan to communicate the role, responsibilities and mission of the DBE program.
Alan Argento, professor of mechanical engineering received $73,291 from the Smith Buckklin Corporation. He will continue researching the use soy materials in thermoplastics and rubber.
Ben Li, department chair and Dohoy Jung, assistant professor, both from mechanical engineering collaborated on a $50,000 award from Constellation Energy. The award will support undergraduate education and research experiences in the field of electric vehicle technologies.
Oleg Zikanov, associate professor of mechanical engineering received $50,000 continuation funding from Oak Ridge Associated Universities for his project "Effect of Liquid-Phase Turbulence on Microstructure Growth in Solidification."
Taehyun Shim, associate professor of mechanical engineering received $48,000 from TRW, Inc. This will fund year 1 of a 3 year project to investigate new brake and safety technologies for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Justin Saarinen, lecturer in the natural sciences department received $24,999 from The U.S. Department of the Interior. He will study the quality of water runoff from coastal watersheds by using a GIS based landscape model.
Mesut Duran, associate dean of the school of education received a $24,942 grant from the Michigan Department of Human Services. This will fund the hiring of a part time Regional Coordinator for the Faith Communities Coalition on Foster Care.
