Chancellor Domenico Grasso provided the following university updates

  • Shared news of COB dean selection and encouraged Regental approval. 
  • Acknowledged UM-Dearborn’s above-average student admission rates to medical schools.
  • Recognized Marilee Benore for her recent appointment as editor-in-chief of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education Journal and our Center for Arab American Studies for being selected as the 2023 Michigan Humanities Award winner for Community Impact

 

The following personnel appointments were approved

New appointments and promotions for regular associate and full professor ranks with tenure.

Frédéric Brunel, dean, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028, and professor of marketing, with tenure.

Reappointments of regular instructional staff and selected academic and administrative staff.

Oleg Zikanov, chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering, CECS, effective Sept. 1, 2023 through Aug. 31, 2028 (also professor of mechanical engineering, with tenure).

Joint or additional appointments or transfers of regular associate or full professors and selected academic and administrative staff.

Shan Bao, chair, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, CECS, effective Aug. 28, 2023 through Aug. 31, 2028 (also associate professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, with tenure).

Wencong Su, chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, CECS, effective Sept. 1, 2023 through Aug. 31, 2027 (also associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, with tenure).

Other news

The Regents approved Juneteenth as a “no-class” day. This day will be treated like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day across all three campuses beginning in June 2024. The university’s 2025-26 academic year calendar was also approved.
