SUBJECT: COB Dean Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the summer.

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of the new Dean of the College of Business, Dr. Frédéric Brunel, pending the Board of Regents’ approval.

Frédéric Brunel received his Bachelor of Sciences in business administration in 1989 from the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d’Angers, in Angers, France, and his Master of Business Administration from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 1992. He earned his Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington in 1998. Professor Brunel comes to the University of Michigan-Dearborn from Boston University where he has served as the associate dean for undergraduate programs in the Questrom School of Business since 2019. Prior to his appointment as associate dean, he served as the assistant dean and the faculty director of the Ph.D. program. Professor Brunel has been a member of the Boston University faculty since 1997. 

Professor Brunel is an accomplished teacher and scholar. He has published in journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Business Strategy Review, and Journal of Marketing Communications. Recent publications include "Peer-to-Peer Word-of-Mouth: Word-of-Mouth Extended to Group On-Line Exchanges," Online Information Review and “Direct to Consumer Advertising of Robotic Heart Bypass Surgery: Effectiveness, Patient Satisfaction and Clinical Outcomes,” International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing. Professor Brunel’s research has also appeared in various book chapters, managerial articles, and in a series of articles in conference proceedings.

I have assembled an onboarding team that will help Dr. Brunel’s transition to his new role and to our campus. I want to thank Aaron Ahuvia, Cathy Boatin, Chris Dunning, Amy Finley, Marcus Harris, Noel Hornbacher, Claudia Kocher, Janice Malloy, and Tuere Wheeler for agreeing to dedicate their time, knowledge and kindness to serve on this team!

Dr. Brunel’s appointment begins on July 1st and I hope that you will have a chance to meet him and warmly welcome him to our campus and community shortly thereafter.
