At the June 15 Board of Regents meeting, the university general fund operating budget and personnel appointments were approved, and major gifts acknowledged.

Chancellor Domenico Grasso provided the following university updates:

  • Shared news of CASL dean selection and encouraged Regental approval
  • Acknowledged the appointment of Paul Draus as director of the U-M Center in Midtown Detroit
  • Recognized Vice Chancellor Casandra Ulbrich as a Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Leader in Fundraiser
  • Expressed delight that 15 of our 16 athletic teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher this season

The following personnel appointments were approved. 

New appointments and promotions for regular associate and full professor ranks with tenure.

  • Dagmar Budikova, dean, CASL, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028, and professor of geography with tenure.

Joint or additional appointments or transfers of regular associate or full professors and selected academic and administrative staff

  • Krisanu Bandyopadhyay, chair, Department of Natural Sciences, CASL, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026 (also professor of chemistry with tenure).
  • Natalia V. Czap, chair, Department of Social Sciences, CASL, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026 (also professor of economics with tenure).
  • Daniel R. Davis, chair, Department of Language, Culture and the Arts, CASL, effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026 (also professor of linguistics with tenure).
