CC and CE course attributes for Winter 2026 semester and beyond

If your course involves any external partner, it needs a Community Connected (CC) or Community Engaged (CE) attribute. CC courses provide entry-level opportunities for students to engage with external partners (e.g. guest speaker, field trip, etc.). CE courses provide deeper opportunities for students to work with external partners over the course of an assignment or an entire semester (e.g. app development for a local business, program evaluation for a nonprofit, etc.). OCEL reviews applications on a rolling basis and forwarded to the Registrar’s Office (these attributes are not required for UCDC approval). Apply today.

OCEL hosts workshops on engagement best practices

Invite Molly or Elspeth to your community-engaged course or service unit to host a workshop on community engagement! Topics include: community-engaged best practices, collaborative project management, conflict resolution and more. OCEL staff can curate a workshop to fit the needs of your unit or learning outcomes of your course. Email Elspeth to schedule your workshop for the Winter semester.

OCEL Seed Grants launching on Feb. 16

Stay tuned in the new year for more details on OCEL’s annual Seed Grant cycle. Grantees can be awarded $500-5,500 for research or projects with business, industry, nonprofit or government community partners. OCEL has proudly supported community-engaged work on campus with seed funding for over a decade.

Set yourself up for success — initiate and develop a relationship with a community partner ahead of your application. Priority will also be given to applicants who involve student researchers and are integrated with SURE applications.
