Emily Saarinen, assistant professor, Natural Sciences, received $24,999 from the U.S. Department of the Interior. She will study the genetic diversity of two species of butterflies (Oarisma powshiek and Hesperia dacotae). Her study will provide information that is critical to the success of captive breeding programs that have been planned for species recovery.
National Science Foundation Responsible Conduct of Research Training
The National Science Foundation requires that all students and postdoctoral scholars who are supported by an NSF research grant must receive at least eight hours of training in Responsible Conduct in Research and Scholarship. Training will be held on Wednesday and Friday mornings. The location is to be determined.

The deadline for Campus Grant applications for Fall semester is October 15, 2012. Grant programs with an October deadline include:

- Small Grants for Faculty Research
- EIC Environmental-Sustainability Research
- Undergraduate Research Fellowships
- Student Group Travel
- CASL Faculty Summer Research Grants of $7,000
- CASL Senior Faculty Research Grants (course release or stipend)
Tenure Track and Lecturer Professional Development Grants provide up to $550 for activities or supplies that contribute to the professional development of the faculty member.
