Understand Law in Economic, Historical, Political, and Social Contexts

Students in a Criminology, Law, & Criminal Justice ClassLaw is a dynamic, living thing shaped by historical forces, social values, and politics. Your courses will explore the evolving nature of law, especially in the context of contemporary legal issues involving civil rights, human freedoms, criminal justice, constitutional interpretation, and the assertion of rights. The field of Law and Society explores the legal environment of various contexts, fields, and professions in our society, including the in relation to business, education, health care and mental health, the family, law enforcement and the military, and even media such as music, film, and social media.

The 12-credit minor in law and society is housed in the Criminology, Law, and Criminal Justice Program, and consists of one required theory course and two electives that you choose from over three dozen options. Minors are not automatically granted. Once you finish the required courses, you must declare the minor on a form that you submit to the CASL Advising and Academic Success Office.
