Help Preserve, Protect, and Promote Public Health

Students working outside in testing the environment.Depending on which courses you choose, the minor in public health can help you develop skills in health education and communication, community organizing, epidemiology, program planning and evaluation, fundraising, grant writing, public policy formation, and more.

The minor provides tremendous flexibility. Only one course, Introduction to Public Health, is required. You choose from 27 courses to fill the minor’s remaining 12 credits. Your choices include courses in working with vulnerable populations, women’s health, the politics of health policy, health promotion, health care administration, obesity, reproductive health policy, health care law, and Arab American health, among many other subjects.

Public Health as a Concentration

If you’d like deeper training in public health, the Bachelor of Science degree in health and human services offers a concentration in public health of 32-33 credits. The degree also offers concentrations in human services and pre-health professions.
