Explore Religious Traditions and Influence

The first place of worship in southeast Michigan was established in 1701. Today, southeast Michigan is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse regions in the nation, home to a wide array of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Janis, Buddhists, Baha’is, and others. Our religious studies program at UM-Dearborn will introduce you to the traditions and influence of these religions in our culture and history.

The 18-credit minor or integrative studies concentration consists of one introductory course and 15 credits of upper-level courses you choose in religious studies (RELS). They cover topics like the African American religious experience, Jesus and the gospels, the Protestant Reformation, gospel music, Islamic movements, religion and literature, the Bible as literature, religion and politics, religion and resistance, and the LGBTQ religious experience, among others.
