Digital Accessibility Update - April 13, 2026
Dear Colleagues,
Over the past year, you have received various campus communications informing you of the new U-M Standard Practice Guide 601.20 and updates to Title II of the ADA, both of which establish April 24, 2026, as the date by which all current and future digital content must meet recognized accessibility standards.
BEYOND THE DEADLINE: A NEW STANDARD
Starting April 24, 2026, and going forward, ensure all digital content and applications — including websites, documents, PDFs, course materials, videos, email, and social media posts — meet recognized accessibility standards.
Examples of the types of materials that must be made accessible, along with additional information and links to training and resources, can be found on UM-Dearborn’s Digital Accessibility webpage.
GUIDANCE FOR STAFF
Staff are required to complete relevant training and implement digital accessibility in their day-to-day work.
- Links to this training and additional information are available on the UM-Dearborn Digital Accessibility webpage.
- If you have not completed the training, please do so as soon as possible. Questions about training expectations or priorities should be directed to your supervisor.
GUIDANCE FOR FACULTY
Faculty should update materials on Canvas to meet digital accessibility standards, focusing first on courses being offered in upcoming terms and prioritizing published material that is visible to students.
- Faculty guidelines, tips & tricks, and a link to the Canvas training are all available on the UM-Dearborn Digital Accessibility for Faculty webpage.
- Faculty can email [email protected] with any questions about digital accessibility in Canvas or other digital platforms.
- A concise alternative to the full Canvas course is also available: UM-Dearborn Digital Accessibility Topics Overview.
Digital accessibility is critical to ensuring the inclusivity of our community. Thank you for your continued work on this important effort.
Sincerely,
