Does a Lawful Society Need God? - Brooklyn Rupert
Within the United States, the historical American legal system was built on a bold theological claim: individual rights are not granted by the government, but endowed by a Creator. This understanding acknowledges two truths about the nature of man: the inherent dignity of the individual and the inherent corruption to which man is prone, which necessitates a legal system to rectify wrongdoing. This leads to the central question: can the rule of law be sustained without the worldview that created it?
Join us on Wednesday, October 21st, to hear from Student Officer Brooklyn Rupert (Criminology & Criminal Justice) about the religious roots of U.S. law, its historic hypocrisies, and the question of whether true justice requires an inherent standard.
