Announcing the inaugural Inclusive Excellence Fellows (October 4, 2022)
Dear Colleagues,
Last April, I announced the launch of the Office of the Chancellor's Inclusive Excellence (IE) Program. This initiative is designed to allow faculty members to play an active role in amplifying campus Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts in partnership with the Chancellor and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer by working on projects that will engage and benefit our community.
Today, it is with great pleasure that I announce our inaugural Inclusive Excellence Fellows. College of Engineering and Computer Science Professor Hafiz Malik and College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters Associate Professor Terri Laws will work on two projects designed to make our campus more inclusive, equitable, and diverse through learning, teaching and research.
Hafiz's fellowship focuses on the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. His fellowship year will focus on helping faculty to recruit students to work on research projects, creating more opportunities for students to find jobs on campus.
Terri's fellowship concentrates on the intersection of college preparedness, student retention and faculty satisfaction. She will also be working with UM-Dearborn Human Resources to evaluate new recruitment and hiring policies aimed at improving diversity in the faculty ranks.
Additional details on both research projects are shared in today's Reporter.
The IE Fellowships will help us build on our successes and bring valuable perspectives to our collective pursuit of making UM-Dearborn more welcoming to all. We intend to develop a cohort of IE Fellows on campus whose research will deeply inform our diversity and inclusion efforts.
Congratulations to Hafiz and Terri on this honor.
Go Blue–Go Dearborn!
