The Conflict in the Middle East - (5/13/2021)
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Over the past few days, we’ve seen an increase in violence and loss of life in the Middle East. These world events affect our campus community in deep and different ways. The scenes of bloodshed and destruction are troubling and saddening. This violence impacts members of our university community in many ways. At UM-Dearborn, we pride ourselves on the inclusive diversity of our campus community. Our region and campus are home to a large population with significant cultural, familial and religious ties to the Middle East. And while recognizing that the deeply-rooted causes of the conflict are not easily resolved, the university implores leaders to seek a peaceful, fair and equitable resolution with earnest commitment and haste to protecting lives.
I encourage anyone who needs support during difficult and troubling times to access our university’s resources. Services are available year-round. Students can find help through CAPS, the university’s counseling and psychological services. Faculty and staff can access these services through the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office. If you are experiencing or see something that concerns you, please contact public safety at 313-593-5333.
These are times of deep sorrow and anxiety for many members of our community. UM-Dearborn remains steadfast in our commitment to creating a peaceful and caring environment for everyone.
With hope for a peaceful future,
Domenico Grasso
Chancellor
