Inclement Weather and Campus Operations (November 17, 2022)
Dear Colleagues,
As the weather transitions from a warm and colorful fall to a cold and unpredictable winter, we are reminded we may soon encounter the occasional weather-related reduction of university operations.
In the event of exigent situations necessitating the reduction of on-campus operations, the Office of the Provost will ask faculty members to pivot to online teaching in a reasonable amount of time in advance of severe weather; classes will not be canceled. Faculty will be asked to notify students, via Canvas, regarding expectations for the day.
During these events, when and where possible staff members should also pivot work functions remotely, after consulting with your supervisor. Supervisors are encouraged to work with Human Resources if they have any questions or need any assistance.
UM-Dearborn staff members performing essential tasks on campus during a campus closure/reduction of operations (e.g., police and facilities operations) will be asked to report to campus in accordance with existing departmental protocols and procedures. If you have any questions about policies or procedures, please contact your supervisor.
As always, do not venture to campus if it is unsafe to do so.
Best wishes for a clement, safe and navigable winter season,
Domenico Grasso
Chancellor
