Michigan State University Tragedy (February 14, 2023)

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Our hearts are in agony this morning as we learn more details regarding the mass shooting on the campus of Michigan State University. So many of us in our community have personal relationships with family members, friends, and colleagues at MSU. Last night’s tragedy hits home in very personal ways for many people across our state.

While this incident has no connection to UM-Dearborn or any other college campus in Michigan, the Department of Public Safety will increase its presence on the campus to ensure everyone’s safety and peace of mind.

These senseless incidents of violence continue to plague our nation, our state, and our local communities. We hope we can all agree this way of life is not in any way acceptable and must stop. We have the well-being of our MSU colleagues and students in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Plans are underway for a vigil on campus tomorrow afternoon. Please watch for details later today.

Students who need assistance during this difficult emotional time can receive help through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Faculty and staff may seek support through the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office (FASCCO).

We are all Spartans today,
