Passing of former Chancellor Blenda Wilson (June 10, 2026)
Dear Colleagues,
I am very saddened to share that former UM-Dearborn Chancellor Blenda Wilson passed away last week after a brief illness. As many of you will recall, Dr. Wilson visited our campus earlier this year, along with her niece, Robin Scott, for the premiere of “Best in Class: Blenda J. Wilson, Jon Onye Lockard and the Portrait that Connected Them,” a documentary produced by several UM-Dearborn students, faculty, and staff, that is part of the Inclusive History Project. Robin let us know that visiting campus again and seeing the documentary was a highlight of Dr. Wilson’s year.
I am very grateful Dr. Wilson had this opportunity and that her legacy has been captured in this wonderful film. She also spoke with Reporter prior to the premiere. I encourage you to read this excellent story to learn more about her tremendous impact on UM-Dearborn.
Please keep Dr. Wilson’s family and many friends at UM-Dearborn and beyond in your thoughts.
There will be a follow up email if any additional information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Gabriella Scarlatta
Chancellor
