Provost Leadership Update (May 11, 2026)

Dear Colleagues,

As announced last week, President Domenico Grasso has appointed me as Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I am deeply honored and humbled to step permanently into this role.

In collaboration with all of you, I plan to continue advancing our strategic initiatives, including integrating practice-based learning and holistic excellence efforts across campus. To that end, I am pleased to announce that, pending regental approval, Ghassan Kridli has agreed to extend his appointment as Interim Provost while we conduct a search for a permanent provost. I am sincerely grateful to Interim Provost Kridli for his continued service. Details on the search process will be shared in the coming days. Additionally, Interim Dean Armen Zakarian has agreed to extend his appointment until a permanent provost is selected.

This is a time of tremendous opportunity for our campus, and I look forward to continuing this important work together.

Go Blue-Go Dearborn!

Gabriella Scarlatta
Interim Chancellor
