Update on FY21 Operating Budget (June 25, 2020)

Dear Colleagues,

Today the U-M Board of Regents met to consider and vote on university budgets. The university's consolidated budget did not pass on a 4-4 tie vote and a revised budget will be considered at the July meeting.  I am working with the executive officers in Ann Arbor as well as UM-Dearborn leadership to consider options and make necessary adjustments before resubmitting to the Regents next month.  Our budget called for a 1.9 percent increase in tuition to be able to offer a quality Michigan degree during these challenging and uncertain times.  You can review the U-M Ann Arbor Record story.

During the meeting, President Schlissel announced a considerable amount of money that will be made available to both the Dearborn and Flint campuses.  These funds will be allocated exclusively to student success initiatives identified by each chancellor.  As I have mentioned often, student success is the keystone that overarches our core mission and strategic planning efforts.  After our FY21 budget is approved, I hope to soon share how we will apply these funds in ways that best serve our students.
