Detroit Promise Scholarship
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is a partner in this program established to assist students who are residents of the city of Detroit and graduate from city of Detroit high schools.
Amount of the Award
Renewable full-tuition (in-state rate) scholarships are awarded annually which cover tuition and selected fees at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Students are required to be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours). The award amount will be adjusted by the amount of Federal Pell Grant eligibility: the two awards will be combined to fully cover tuition and fees.
Scholarship Renewal
Full-tuition scholarships are renewable for six semesters, three years (a total of 8 semesters received) or the completion of a bachelor's degree, whichever occurs first. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and meet the standards of satisfactory academic progress required by all financial aid recipients.
Eligibility
- Resident of the city of Detroit from the 9th through the 12th grades.
- High school seniors who attend all four years and graduate from any Detroit high school: Detroit Public Schools, Education Achievement Authority (EAA), charter, private, parochial, or home school. A student can attend more than one city of Detroit high school and still be eligible.
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status and state of Michigan residency (as defined by the University of Michigan).
- GPA of 3.0 or higher by February 1st of senior year.
- Promise scholars must also apply for federal financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year they plan to attend.
