Biography and Education

Abbas Ali is a PhD student and Graduate Student Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, working in the Information Systems, Security, and Forensics (ISSF) Laboratory under Prof. Hafiz Malik. His National Science Foundation-funded research focuses on securing cyber-physical systems at the hardware level, including FPGA-based intrusion detection, device fingerprinting, and electromagnetic and power side-channel analysis for IoT and automotive systems.

Before joining UM-Dearborn, he worked for two years as an FPGA engineer, developing high-performance digital systems. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, where he graduated as a gold medalist.

His work has been published at USENIX VehicleSec, IEEE CSR, EAI SmartSP, Alexandria Engineering Journal, and PLOS ONE.
