Aditya Raghunandan
Biography and Education
Dr. Aditya Raghunandan (Adi) received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), studying the interfacial hydrodynamics and rheology of biomolecular surfactant films. His postdoctoral research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester focused on discovering the role of brain fluid transport in aging and neurodegeneration. Dr. Raghunandan's research goals are to discover how fluid transport and interfacial interactions destabilize biomolecules (proteins), contributing to diseases like Alzheimer's (AD) and failures during the manufacturing of protein-based biotherapeutics. To that end, Dr. Raghunandan's lab will develop tissue/organ-on-a-chip models to study protein-misfolding diseases like AD, and use scaled-down experiments of biomanufacturing unit operations to predict the manufacturability of protein-based drug molecules. Dr. Raghunandan's research expertise includes biofluid dynamics and biotransport, microfluidics, rheology, protein chemistry, and cellular biology. Results of his research have been published in journals including eLife, Physical Review Letters, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physical Review Fluids, and Soft Matter (cover). He has also won the Steadman Family Postdoctoral Associate Prize in Interdisciplinary Research.
