Research
Alex Rainville’s research interests fall at the intersection of society and organizational strategy,
where institutional forces and inter-organizational dynamics have consequences for firm
behavior. Specifically, he explores how interventions by the government and other aspects of
society have unintended and, often, adverse consequences for a firm. Moreover, he explores how
other facets of society alter the organization, where firm legitimacy is of the utmost importance,
creating many inadvertent behavioral outcomes, whether moral, social, or performance based.
Generally, this interest in strategy and organizational theory incorporates institutional theory,
political sociology, and non-market risk, having published in multiple peer reviewed journals and
presented at numerous academic conferences.
