Biography and Education

As an Academic Advisor and START Academic Advisor for the College of Business, Cody Brown supports students from their very first year through graduation, helping them navigate degree planning and make the most of their college experience.

Cody has served in K–12 and higher education for more than 20 years. His background includes teaching social studies in one of Texas’s largest school districts, coaching football to a division title, and serving as an adjunct faculty member at Adrian College, where he taught introductory business courses.

What inspired him to work here?

Cody’s greatest inspiration comes from his children, who remind him of the importance of shaping future opportunities. Working at the University of Michigan–Dearborn allows him to serve today’s students while knowing they will become the future Leaders and Best. What he loves most is getting to know each student, their goals, interests, and passions, and helping them connect those to their academic and career journeys. That sense of purpose is what makes his work so rewarding.

Ask him about:

  • Why Bob’s Burgers is the best show on television
  • Why Mike Judge is the greatest writer in TV and film history
  • The time he had a run-in with a Detroit Red Wing Hall of Famer
