Biography and Education

Dr. Denise Kamyuka is a Sports Management Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Education, Health, and Human Services. She earned her doctorate in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. She holds a master’s degree in Sports Management and a Bachelor’s in Pharmacy. Prior to academia, Dr. Kamyuka worked as a pharmacist and marking manager for a pharmaceutical distributor. Since pivoting into academia her interest and research focus has been on women in sport, sport and physical activity for people with disabilities, social entrepreneurship in sport, and health promotion in sport. Dr. Kamyuka applies participatory action research and community-based research methodologies in her work, with a heavy emphasis taking strength-based approaches and fortifying community capacity. Dr. Kamyuka is also a life coach and does consultation work for sport nonprofits.
