Biography and Education

Justin B. Ames, Assistant Professor of Business Strategy at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business. Justin joined the University of Michigan-Dearborn faculty in 2019 upon completing his post-doctoral work at Brigham Young University as a research fellow in the Wheatley Institution Ethics Initiative. He received his Ph.D. in Management from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, his Bachelor’s in Management from Brigham Young University-Provo, and his Associate’s in Business from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

Justin has 15 years of industry experience as an operations executive, working both internationally and stateside. He is a proud father of four children, and has been married to his amazing wife Diane for 22 years.

Teaching and Research

Research

His primary research interests lie in ethical and responsible leadership, specifically the psychological, emotional and neurological factors that influence ethical decision-making in strategic and CSR-related contexts. Additionally, Justin spends time considering the role of ethics in business school education and how to develop more effective ethical training for the future business professionals.  His peer-reviewed research has appeared in a variety of high-quality publication outlets including Leadership Quarterly, Business Ethics: The Environment & Responsibility, and Society & Business Review. He is also a regular contributor to the  Academy of Management, the Society of Business Ethics and the International Association of Business and Society. In recognition of his research, he received the Founder’s Award from the Society of Business Ethics, Best Article Award from the Academy of Management Organizational Neuroscience Interest Group and was named a Research Associate with the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence. His former fellowships include partnerships with the Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, the Design and Innovation Department at Case Western Reserve University, and the Wheatley Institution at Brigham Young University.
