Biography and Education

Sofia Calzada Orihuela earned her B.A. in Teaching Spanish and Literature from the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico where she is from. She received her M.A. from The Catholic University of America, in Washington, DC, and her Ph.D. in Latin American Literature at the University of Maryland, College Park.

She has been teaching college level Spanish in the United States since 2004, and has taught all levels of Spanish language, composition, translation and Latin American literature surveys. Her research interests include colonial literature, 18th century Mexican literature, early scientific periodicals, and translation. She joined the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2013.
