Young K. Ro, Ph.D., Department Chair Information and Operation Management and Professor of Operations Management at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business. He holds B.S. and M.S. in industrial engineering from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. Over the last several years, Dr. Ro has taught both graduate and undergraduate level courses at the University of Michigan–Dearborn and the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor.
Research
Presently, Dr. Ro is engaged in several research projects concerning the role of product development, manufacturing, purchasing, and logistical practice in supply chain firm relationships within various industries as well as pedagogical work on learning outcomes in business education. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Operations Management, the Journal of Management, the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, the International Journal of Automotive Technology & Management, the International Journal of Manufacturing Technology & Management, the Journal of Managerial Issues, and the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, among others.
Dr. Ro has been the recipient of a Best Paper Award at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (2007), a Distinguished Paper Award at the Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute (2007), an Honorable Mention for the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management Best Paper Award (2008), and an Honorable Mention from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Industry Studies Best Paper Competition (2006). Dr. Ro is also a current member of the Editorial Boards for the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management and The Open Transportation Journal.
In addition, he is a contributing author for the Handbook of New Product Development Management (2008) published by Elsevier Ltd. His professional memberships include the Academy of Management, the Decision Sciences Institute, INFORMS, and the Production & Operations Management Society. Dr. Ro’s current research interests include supply chain management, product development, and the management of technology.
His professional work experience includes various positions at companies such as the Intel Corporation, Eli Lilly & Company, TRW Automotive, and the Systems Engineering Research Institute in South Korea. He has also been involved in consulting projects with companies such as General Motors, Chrysler, Delphi, Visteon, Lear, Intier Automotive, PPG, and Flint Ink.
