Biography and Education
Dr. Kim’s research interests are probability theory, asymptotic problems for stochastic differential equations, and partial differential equations. During her Ph.D., she worked on asymptotic problems for stochastic processes and related partial differential equations under the guidance of Professor Mark Freidlin at the University of Maryland, College Park. Before she joined the University of Michigan–Dearborn in 2014, she worked as a postdoc fellow at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, University of Minnesota (2009–2010), the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (2010–2012), and Michigan State University (2012–2014). Her research area has been growing to cover a wide range in mathematics and its application such as mathematical biology, game theory, and harmonic analysis.
Dr. Kim has supervised a number of undergraduate research projects through MAAs, Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement (SUMMA) program and other grants in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She also led the “Preparation for Industrial Careers in Mathematical Sciences” (PIC MATH) program at the University of Michigan– Dearborn, which was sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. This program provides research experience on mathematical problems coming directly from business, industry, or government. Her students received several awards from their presentations at local/national conferences and submitted the research results to journals. She will continue to support and help her students’ research because she believes that advising students’ research is an integral part of her teaching and research.
