Like any academic endeavor, success in graduate school takes time and commitment. It’s important to have clear goals in mind before you start. The earlier you begin your research, the better.
Explore Your Options at UM-Dearborn
UM-Dearborn offers more than 75 graduate degree and certificate offerings, including many 4+1 options. Consider which programs align with your career goals and, more importantly, how the advanced degree will help you reach them.
Speak with Faculty Members and Industry Professionals
Speaking with your current faculty mentors or other professors in your field of interest is a great way to learn more about expectations and opportunities for graduate students at UM-Dearborn. Additionally, you can reach out to professionals working in your field of interest, including your fellow Wolverines in our vast alumni network. Prepare for the Graduate Admissions Process
Depending on your graduate program of interest, there may be specific admissions criteria to consider – including coursework you should complete in your undergraduate program. Here are a few items that may be applicable to you:
- Prerequisite courses
- Graduate exams (such as GRE or LSAT)
- Letters of recommendation
You may also want to consider other attributes that will help you stand out to graduate admissions committees, such as:

- Internships or employment
