Mathematics & Statistics Colloquium: Monday, Oct 19 - Phase as an Organizing Principle for Biological Oscillators
Faculty, staff, and students are warmly invited to attend:
Phase as an Organizing Principle for Biological Oscillators
Speaker: Yangyang (Alexandra) Du
Date: Monday, October 19, 2026
Time: 3:30–4:30 p.m.
Location: 2048 CB
Oscillations appear throughout biological systems, from neural and cardiac activity to circadian rhythms. In this talk, Yangyang (Alexandra) Du will explore how “phase” can simplify the study of complex biological oscillators. She will discuss phase-based methods for simulating stochastic oscillators, tracking biological rhythms in real time, and understanding synchronization and symmetry breaking in coupled oscillator populations.
Du is a Ph.D. student in Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. Her research focuses on applied dynamical systems and computational neuroscience.
All faculty, staff, and students are welcome.
Refreshments will be provided!
