Federal Work-Study jobs help students earn money to pay for college or career school.

The Federal Work-Study Program provides students with the opportunity to work on campus or at approved off-campus non-profit organizations while they attend college. The purpose of any work-study program is to help a student pay educational costs through employment. It is financial aid that is considered self-help. Students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits undergraduate) to be eligible.

  • After accepting the Work-Study portion of your financial aid award, you will need to find a job that fits both your skills, your interests, and your time availability. Most jobs are found at (set your search to temporary and part-time, all career interests and Dearborn campus.) Library job postings are also displayed on the About Us section of the Mardigian Library webpage.

  • You should expect to be interviewed for positions. If you have your schedule of classes, it will be easier for you and your supervisor to set up your work schedule.

  • You must complete I-9 and W-4 forms provided by your supervisor or the Human Resources Office to be eligible to work on campus.

  • Your rate of pay will be at least $9.45/hour (minimum wages as of 01/01/2019) and your pay rate will depend on your job classification.

  • You will need to complete a timesheet bi-weekly with your supervisor's approval of your hours worked in order to be paid.

  • Your bi-weekly pay is dependent upon your hourly pay rate and the number of hours worked during the pay period. It is recommended that you enroll in Direct Deposit through the Human Resources Office.

While students have a practical need to work and working on campus is an opportunity to save time commuting and finding parking spaces, working in an academically supportive environment, and getting to know the university from another perspective.

There are three restrictions for students employed through the Federal Work-Study Program:

  • Work-Study employees cannot work during scheduled class time.

  • Cannot work more than 8 hours in any day.

  • Work-Study employees cannot work more than 25 hours per week.
