UM-Dearborn is planning a week of events to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
To commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., UM-Dearborn and Henry Ford College will host programs and events dedicated to honoring the memory of this great American Icon.
MLK Day of Service - Make a Difference in Our Community!
10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Volunteers from across campus and the surrounding community will come together on Monday, January 20, to lend a helping hand and inspire long-lasting and positive change throughout the Metro Detroit area. Volunteers will work remotely or in-person to support Detroit-area community agencies in fulfilling their valuable missions.
Join us for the annual MLK Day of Service on January 20th, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy through meaningful service. This exciting day of giving back is a collaborative effort between the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford Campus, offering a range of opportunities for students and staff to make a positive impact in our local community. Whether you prefer to serve on-campus, off-campus, or remotely, there’s a way for everyone to get involved!

Civil Rights Edit-A-Thon; Mardigian Library 10am-1pm
Join us for a hands-on Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon focused on expanding and improving entries related to the Civil Rights Movement. Participants will learn how to research and add valuable information to underdeveloped articles, helping to preserve and share this important knowledge!
MLK Keynote Address- "From Harm to Healing: Confronting Microaggressions and Cultivating Microaffirmations for Justice"

Dr. Daicia Price will be presenting “From Harm to Healing: Confronting Microaggressions and Cultivating Microaffirmations for Justice” discussing the negative impacts microaggressions have on marginalized communities and practical strategies for creative inclusive environments.This is a virtual event.
Utilizing an excerpt from one of Dr. King's works, the Black Student Union will host a speech writing event where students will write and recite speeches around themes of social justice and restoration. This event will lead to meaningful discussions about Dr. King's work and impact and how it can be looked at in current times.
Political Poster-Making Workshop
11 AM - 1 PM
Rosenau Rooms (Building L) - Henry Ford College, 5101 Evergreen Rd. Dearborn, MI.
We will continue the spirit of community and partnership with Henry Ford College by hosting an interactive poster-making workshop facilitated by local artist and curator of Posters on Politics, Donna Jackson, with speeches from various student organizations from both institutions with closing remarks by HFC Sociological Professor Kalvin DaRonne Harvell.
Join us to learn about the powerful history of protest art, and practice creating your own posters as a tool for expression!
Lunch will be provided. Attendance is free and open for all students, staff, and community members.
