SUBJECT: Announcing the Appointment of Ghassan Kridli as Dean of CECS
Dear Colleagues,
I am extremely pleased to announce that the U-M Board of Regents approved the appointment of Ghassan T. Kridli to the position of Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, effective July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2025.
Ghassan has served as interim dean since September 1, 2020. He has been a highly valued leader of the college and a trusted and gifted academic administrator.
Ghassan’s research focuses on the application of fundamental engineering knowledge in the design and manufacture of sheet metal products of lightweight alloys. His research has significant industrial applicability and includes mechanical and metallurgical characterization of light alloys coupled with numerical models for predicting the material formability.
During his time at UM-Dearborn, Ghassan has distinguished himself in the classroom, as an advisor and as a mentor. His experience includes significant work in program assessment for continuous improvement and in curriculum development, and he has worked to create strategies for student success while also exploring effective pedagogical practices in engineering education. Ghassan collaborates with UM-Dearborn colleagues on K-12 student outreach and K-12 teacher preparation to present engineering in an integrated STEM curriculum. He served as associate dean for five years.
Ghassan received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Miami and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.
The role of Dean of CECS is vital to the future of our university, and I am beyond pleased to see this transition in his title. I am confident that he will be a transformative leader for the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and a tremendous asset for the campus at large.
Congratulations, Ghassan!
With all my very best wishes,
Sue Alcock
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
