Joan Remski is a Professor of Mathematics and is currently serving as the Department Chair in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. She earned a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University. In her 26 years on campus, she has served and led in a number of roles including director for the graduate program in Applied and Computational Mathematics, vice chair of faculty senate, chair of the faculty senate P&T committee, chair of the campus grants committee, and CASL Executive Committee. She was the recipient of the 2014 campus Distinguished Service Award. Her research centers on numerical methods for partial differential equations and, more recently, factors impacting retention and degree attainment in STEM. She is currently the PI on a six year, $1.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation that provides scholarships to academically talented, low-income students at UM-Dearborn.
As the Associate Provost, Joan will be overseeing the Mardigian Library, the Hub for Teaching & Learning and Online Education, as well as the Higher Learning Commission & Accreditation efforts. Working closely with the colleges, she will also oversee faculty development and excellence and ensure that policies and processes support best practices for faculty advancement. In addition, Joan will oversee new initiatives and co-chair the Council of Associate Deans and work closely with college associate deans to further and support the campus’s collective mission and vision.
Please join me in congratulating Joan!
