SUBJECT: Thank You Mitch!

Dear Campus Community,
I write to share the news that Dr. Mitch Sollenberger will be completing his term as Associate Provost at the end of December, 2023 and will return to the faculty. I can’t begin to thank Mitch enough for his many accomplishments these past ten years and his significant contributions to the Provost Office and to our campus community, the faculty, the students and staff!
As Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success, Mitch:
- Led the Hub for Teaching and Learning Resources, the Office of Academic Success, the Office of Digital Education, and START
- Had responsibility for undergraduate curriculum, general education, assessment, program review, and accreditation
- Chaired the University Curriculum and Degree Committee and Digital Education Subcommittee, and Co-chaired the Council of Associate Deans
- Oversaw the faculty approval and implementation of the Dearborn Discovery Core
- Led the revamping of program assessment and program review processes
- Led the adoption of a common syllabus template
- Hired in the campus's first instructional designers in the Hub for Teaching and Learning
- Introduced the campus's first course redesign programs
- Created the Student Advising and Resource Team (START)
- Created the campus's first student success strategic plan
- Oversaw the creation of the campus's first data dashboards
- Oversaw the process to coordinate and manage articulation agreements within the Provost Office
- Oversaw the successful accreditation visit of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in 2017, and has been leading the preparation efforts for the November 2023 HLC visit
- Created the Office of Academic Success
- Led the Faculty Excellence Committee in issuing recommendations on advancing the Boyer Model of Scholarship
I also personally want to thank Mitch for helping me when I assumed the Interim Provost position two years ago and his continued support as I transitioned to the Provost role in July 2022. Mitch’s commitment to UM-Dearborn and his dedication to service provided us all with an immeasurable source of information, knowledge, wisdom and advice. From me, and everyone in the Provost Office, we are deeply grateful!
Please join me in congratulating Mitch for his ten years of service in the Provost Office and wish him the very best for his next chapter at the University of Michigan-Dearborn starting in January 2024!
