Emergencies

If you hear a fire alarm, class will be immediately suspended, and you must evacuate the building by using the nearest exit. Please proceed outdoors to the assembly area and away from the building. Do not use elevators. It is highly recommended that you do not head to your vehicle or leave campus since it is necessary to account for all persons and to ensure that first responders can access the campus.

If the class is notified of a shelter-in-place requirement for a tornado warning or severe weather warning, your instructor will suspend class and shelter the class in the lowest level of this building away from windows and doors.

If notified of an active threat (shooter) you will Run (get out), Hide (find a safe place to stay) or Fight (with anything available).  Your response will be dictated by the specific circumstances of the encounter.

Please visit the Campus Safety and Information Resources page and the Emergency Management page for further information.

Emergency Information and Alerts

All students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to register to receive Emergency Notification System Alert messages for communications during an emergency; please familiarize yourself with all emergency procedures.

Attendance Requirement

In accordance with the Attendance Requirement Policy, a student enrolled in a course is expected to attend every scheduled session of the course; the instructor of each course will make known to the students the course attendance policy with respect to student absences.

Academic Integrity

Each student has a responsibility to understand, accept, and comply with the UM-Dearborn’s standards of academic conduct as set forth by the Academic Code of Conduct, as well as policies established by each college.

Counseling

It is important to maintain one’s mental health and wellness to succeed. While students may seek out counseling for reasons such as depressed mood, anxiety, or identity concerns, all students are encouraged to book an appointment with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) if they start to feel overwhelmed. Currently enrolled students can take advantage of CAPS for free and receive confidential help. CAPS can be reached at 313-593-5430 or by email at [email protected].

Disabilities and Accessibility Services Accommodations

The University strives to make learning accessible for all. If you anticipate or experience academic accessibility barriers based on your disability, please contact Disability and Accessibility Services (DAS) to discuss potential accommodations. Students will need to register with DAS each semester they are enrolled as soon as they have their schedule for the term. DAS can be reached at 313-593-5310 or [email protected].

Digital Content Accessibility Statement

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act requires all public universities to proactively deliver digital content and applications — including websites, course materials, videos, documents and social media posts — in formats that meet recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).  Students are encouraged to reach out to their instructor in instances where course content is inaccessible.  In addition, if inaccessible content is encountered on any UM-Dearborn digital platforms, please contact the Office of the Provost at 313-593-5030 or [email protected] so the content can be remediated as necessary.

Harassment, Sexual Violence, Bias, and Discrimination

UM-Dearborn recognizes that students have a right to study in a safe atmosphere free of sexual violence, harassment, bias and discrimination; visit the Incident and Complaint Reporting page to file an incident report.

These items, and their inclusion on this page, have been reviewed and approved by the Faculty Senate or one of its appointed sub-committees (i.e. UCDC, Grad Subcommittee, Digital Education Subcommittee).
