Campus Email Notification

General Information

Everyone on campus can send messages to the campus community. This email group is named [email protected]

Members can opt-out of this list using the ITS instructions, and your opt-out will be honored going forward. Faculty and staff are not automatically removed as they leave the university or retire. To remove yourself:

  • Log into MCommunity
  • Search general-umdearborn
  • Click into the group, then click the button that says “Leave Group” at the top of the page

Examples of information that can be sent to this list include:

  • Visiting faculty visits
  • Thesis defenses
  • Volunteer requests for campus events
  • Staffing/retirement announcements
  • Internal training/professional development opportunities
  • Programs or other campus or work-related information

Forum and FYI Lists

The forum email ([email protected]) list allows faculty and staff to discuss, debate and share information and opinions on topics of their choice, usually of an academic nature. 

The FYI ([email protected]) list allows for communication of non-university business. 

Examples of information that can be sent to this list include:

  • Selling of athletic tickets
  • Sale of homes and house-related items
  • Community events without ties to the university
  • Road construction updates
  • All fundraising activities that do not financially benefit UM-Dearborn and other like information.

All faculty and staff can opt into (or out of) these email groups using the ITS instructions. Faculty and staff are not automatically added to these lists.

ITS Notifications

The ITS notification ([email protected]) list allows for you to receive notifications about ITS outages, updates, etc. across campus. This is just for notifications, faculty and staff cannot send to this list.

All faculty and staff can opt into (or out of) these email groups using the ITS instructions. Faculty and staff are not automatically added to these lists.

Other Email Groups

There are additional email groups that have restricted access - all faculty, all staff, LEO, and everybody on campus. Members cannot opt out of these groups and they are maintained daily by ITS. Vice Chancellors and/or Deans will determine if an employee should have access to send emails to these groups.

Examples of information that can be sent to this list include:

  • Emergency notifications
  • Senior leadership announcements and communications
  • Compliance information

Please note - when you send an email to any of the above groups, the sender does not receive the message. Please copy yourself to see if the communication was sent.
