Freshman scholarship offers are based on GPA at the time of admission and SAT/ACT scores for high school students applying for Fall 2020 through Summer 2021 semesters and is subject to change at any time (see chart below).  

Scholarships will continue to be awarded after the December 15 priority deadline as long as funds are available.

Scholarship Details

* SAT criteria is based on the new SAT total score for Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math.  For tests taken prior to March 2016, the previous SAT scoring model will be utilized.

** For Chancellor’s Scholarship eligibility, applications must be received by December 15, 2019, only scores from tests taken through November 2019 will be used, and students must qualify for in-state tuition† (per U-M Board of Regents guidelines).

Chancellor's Scholarship

The Chancellor’s Scholarship awards a full-tuition scholarship for up to four years (each award valued at approximately $56,000 for a period of up to four years).

* For Chancellor’s Scholarship eligibility, applications must be submitted by December 15, 2019, all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020, only scores from tests taken through November 2019 will be used, and students must qualify for in-state tuition (per U-M Board of Regents guidelines).

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and maintain a minimum of half-time enrollment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade point average of 4.00 or higher at the time of admission
  • SAT score of 1390* or ACT composite of 31 or higher (highest composite test score used) 
Metropolitan Scholarship

The Metropolitan Scholarship awards an annual scholarship of $5,000 for up to four years (each award valued at $20,000 for a period of up to four years). 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applications and all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020.

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and maintain a minimum of half-time enrollment.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen.

Dean's Scholarship

The Dean's Scholarship awards an annual scholarship of $4,000 for up to four years (each award valued at $16,000 for a period of up to four years).

To be eligible for this scholarship, applications and all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020.

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and maintain a minimum of half-time enrollment.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen.

Maize Scholarship

The Maize Scholarship awards an annual scholarship of $3,000 for up to four years (each award valued at $12,000 for a period of up to four years).

To be eligible for this scholarship, applications and all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020.

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and maintain a minimum of half-time enrollment.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen.

Blue Scholarship

The Blue Scholarship awards an annual scholarship of $2,000 for up to four years (each award valued at $8,000 for a period of up to four years).

To be eligible for this scholarship, applications and all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020.

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and maintain a minimum of half-time enrollment.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or Mexican citizen.

Impact Scholarship

The Impact Scholarship awards an annual scholarship of $2,000-$6,000 per year based on financial need (as determined by FAFSA). Admission application and FAFSA must be submitted by February 1, 2020. To be eligible for this scholarship, all required application materials must be received by April 10, 2020.

Scholarship renewal is subject to an annual review. Recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.

Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Students who qualify for Blue, Maize, Deans, Metropolitan, or Non-Residential scholarships may also qualify for the Impact Scholarship.

The Fine Print

  • If you are eligible for more than one UM-Dearborn funded scholarship, the scholarship of greater value will be awarded.
  • Students receiving UM-Dearborn funded scholarships may also be considered for endowed or donor scholarships.
  • GPA, at the time of admission, is used in determining scholarship eligibility.
  • Unless otherwise stated, all recipients must be a U.S. citizen or permanent residents and must meet Michigan residency requirements for in-state tuition.
  • All scholarships are subject to review for renewal at the end of each academic year. All recipients must meet requirements of satisfactory academic progress and maintain a cumulative grade point average as articulated on their Terms and Conditions Form at the time of online scholarship acceptance.
