Office of the Chancellor

Welcome to University of Michigan-Dearborn.

This truly is a remarkable time to be a part of the university community as we celebrate record enrollment, new programs and facilities, and a continued pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and community impact.

This past fall we welcomed over 9,100 students to campus. Our students are bright, ambitious and reflective of the diversity of southeast Michigan. Nearly half of our students are first-generation college students, and almost three-quarters work while earning a degree.

As enrollment has grown, we have developed new facilities to better serve our students both inside and outside the classroom, including The Union at Dearborn—the first housing option specifically designed for UM-Dearborn students in more than 25 years—and the renovated Natural Science Building, which opened in September.

I am incredibly proud of UM-Dearborn’s progress. Even more impressive to me, though, is the fact that faculty and staff have remained committed to our mission as we grow.

We continue to provide the academic excellence of the University of Michigan in service to southeast Michigan. Our programs consistently are ranked among the top in the state and the region, with new programs forming to address some of southeast Michigan’s most pressing needs. And our strategic partnerships with industry and community organizations both strengthen learning and research opportunities and help to transform our region.

Our work within the community has led to state and national recognitions. But more than that, we believe the work we’re doing now can provide a positive impact on our region for generations to come.

It is a privilege for me to lead the university as we work together to make a difference in the lives of our students and region.
