College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters Admission Prerequisites
A Summary of Basic Prerequisites for Graduate Programs Housed in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters
CASL graduate program prerequisites (undergraduate degree or major required, any academic standardized test scores, prerequisite courses, work experience or other credential that might be required) can be accessed by clicking on the relevant program below.
Undergraduate Degree Required
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer and information science, engineering, a physical science or a life science with an expected 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA or higher. Individuals with degrees in other fields not listed or with a lower cumulative GPA may be considered for admission but may be required to submit additional evidence of potential for success in the ACM program.

Prerequisite Courses
- Calculus, including Multivariate Calculus*
- Introductory course in Linear Algebra or combination of Differential Equations with Linear Algebra*
- Introductory course in Probability and Statistics*
* Prerequisite courses may be taken concurrently with graduate courses as a condition of admission in extraordinary cases but will not count towards degree requirements
4+1/Accelerated Option
Current UM-Dearborn undergraduate students may be eligible for the 4+1 option if they have:
- declared a mathematics major
- a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2
- completed the following prerequisite courses:
- Math major prerequisites
- MATH 227 (grade of B+ or better)
- MATH 228 (grade of B+ or better)
- MATH 300
Undergraduate Degree Required
Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related major with an expected minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Students without undergraduate Psychology degrees are welcome to apply, but will need to have taken all prerequisites.

Bachelor's degree with an expected minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

- Introduction to Criminal Justice (CRJ 200 or equivalent)*
- Criminology (CRJ 468 or equivalent)*
- Criminal Law (CRJ 416 or equivalent)*
* Prerequisite courses should be completed prior to graduate coursework; these courses may be taken concurrently with graduate coursework at the discretion of the program director
4+1/Accelerated Option
Current UM-Dearborn undergraduate students may be eligible for the 4+1 accelerated option if they have:
- declared a Criminology and Criminal Justice or Sociology major
- a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
Undergraduate Degree Required
Bachelor's degree with a foundation in basic science and math akin to Environmental Science or equivalent as determined by the program director

Prerequisite Courses
Applicants outside of traditional Natural Sciences degrees are strongly encouraged to speak with the program director for additional information pertinent to their application for admission. As part of the admission review, any prerequisite coursework not previously taken that is determined to be necessary for success in the program will be individually itemized.
