Carnegie Community Engagement (Jan. 13, 2026)
Dear Colleagues,
I am extremely proud to announce that UM-Dearborn has again been recognized as a community-engaged campus by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. We are one of only 277 U.S. colleges and universities to hold the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, in recognition of our partnerships and impact in our local community right here in Dearborn and across southeast Michigan and the state. We received our first multi-year designation in 2015.
I want to thank and congratulate all of our faculty, staff, and students who are forging meaningful connections with community and industry partners. I especially want to acknowledge Office of Community Engaged Learning (OCEL) and Engagement Specialist Molly Manley, who led our reclassification effort, with support from OCEL Engagement Strategist Elspeth Muzzin and the OCEL staff, the Office of Institutional Research, Dean of Students Amy Finley, Associate Provost Maureen Linker, Vice Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies Joan Remski, Director of Communications Kristin Palm and many others across campus.
To learn more about this honor and UM-Dearborn’s community-engaged work, make sure to read the story in Thursday’s Reporter.
