Speechify

The ITS Digital Accessibility team has extended Speechify, a high-quality text-to-speech (TTS) tool for Mac and Windows through May 2027. This program is not intended to replace our existing literacy toolkit, Read & Write (R&W). Instead, it will fill some gaps not currently addressed by R&W. Must be a UM student, staff, or faculty member to qualify.

  • No proof of disability is required. Individuals who are assigned a license will be required to provide occasional feedback through brief surveys during the year to help us evaluate Speechify demand.
  • Priority will be given to the following users:
    • Read&Write for Mac users who would benefit from high-quality voices (a feature not yet available in R&W for Mac).
    • Read&Write for Windows users who have tried R&W’s high-quality voices but still have unmet needs (for example, needing to export MP3s with high-quality voices).
  • What users will receive:
    • Setup instructions and support from ITS Accessibility.
    • A direct channel to share feedback that will shape future Speechify support at U-M.
  • Students, faculty, and staff can apply using the Questionnaire for Speechify users form.
    • Applicants will receive a response by the next business day.
